Pontiac Repair: 1994 Grand Am Transmission bangs, pontiac grand am, grand am

I have a 1994 Pontiac Grand Am V6 (automatic) and just recently as I am slowing down or sometimes accelerating the transmission makes a bang noise. It doesn't seem to be slipping really, as it will go after that, but the car jerks and it feels as though the transmission is going to drop out. Please help!!!

Does this have a 4 speed or 3 speed automatic transmission? First off I would check the fluid level and make sure it's full. Check it when it's hot. If the fluid looks dark brown/black or smells burnt you have issues inside the transmission and it will have to come apart. My guess it it's either low on fluid and acting up or you have a valve or an accumulator valve sticking in the transmission. again nothing can be done without taking it apart and looking for a cause.
