Pontiac Repair: 2000 Pontiac Bonneville SSE gas gauge, pontiac bonneville sse, fuel level sensor

Question
My gas gauge is not working properly.  I though it was because it was so cold
outside that it was frozen or something.  It starts out where it should be then
it floats all around.  The only way I can find out for sure is if I shut the car off
then turn the key without actually starting it and the needle floats to where I
believe it should be.  Please advise.

Answer
Hi Teresa:

You need a fuel level sensor on the fuel pump module inside the gas tank. This is a pretty common issue with these cars. The additives in the gasoline damage the sensor and start giving you false readings and the gauge bouncing all around especially when the tank is less than 1/2 full. Good luck :0
