Pontiac Repair: Oil Leak, replacing a water pump, crank shaft

Question
I have a 1999 Pontiac Grand AM with a 4 cylinder engine. It never leaked oil before but recently after a trip to the local repair shop for replacing a water pump and timing chain I have noticed that there is oil dripping. Could the replacement of those items have anything to do with the oil leak?

Answer
Hi Salim:

yes in order to have the water pump replaced the timing cover has to be removed from the engine and ther is a gasket behind that cover and ther is also a gasket on the front of the crank shaft that could be leaking as well. that was disturbed as well doing this job. So to answer your question yes changing the water pump can cause an oil leak in a round about way. Good luck :)
