Pontiac Repair: 1989 Pontiac Sunfire, pontiac sunfire, noid light

Question
When idling it was missing fairly bad. Now the car will no start, turns over and fuel pump starts when iginition key turns. Is there a fuel filter in the fuel line?

Answer
Hi Ronda:

yes it has a filer in the line back by the tank. This engine has throttel body injection it you take the air cleaner off and look in the throttle body where the air enters the engine have someone crank the car and see if you see the injectory spraying fule into the engine. If so then You have fule pressure and the injetcor is working. I would then look at a possable spark issue. If you don't see the fuel spraying into the engine you need a tool called a noid light you unplug the injector and plug the light into the connector for the injector and crank the car. The light should flash meaning the engine computer is turning the injector on and off. If it's not turning on and off and the car has no spark It's either a issue with/in the distributor or possably the timing belt may have broke on this engine and it's not tirning the camshaft and in that case it will not turn the distributir either. Good luck :)
