Pontiac Repair: 1998 Firebird, keyless entry system, lock cylinder

Question
I am buying a 1998 Firebird, but the outside key lock cylinder is missing.  Will I be able to replace this and match it to the key for the drivers side and the remote entry? I couldn't pass up the price for the car.  Thank you.

Answer
Hi Pam:

Yes you will ahve to goto a dealership and show them proof of ownership to of the car once you buy it and they can run the VIN# of the car and give you the key code for the lock. They can code a new lock cylinder for you to match you key. You can also get new remotes for the keyless entry system. The remotes have to be programmed to match the car. This is done with a scan tool at the dealership. Some aftermarket scan tools that corner garges have can do this as well. Good luck :)
