Pontiac Repair: 2000 Sunfire RPM Skipping, spark plug wires, o2 sensor

hey todd,
i have a 2000 Sunfire the check engine light just came on and now the car's RPM is skipping and it almost seems like it's going to stall but never does. I heard it might be the O2 sensor but i have no clue.

Hi Stephen:

is the service engine soon lamp on on this car? Is it flashing? If so more than likely you have a misfire condition. where one or more of the cylinders are not firing thus the skipping feeling. These cars were noted for spark plug wires going bad. the voltage leaks out of the plug wires and jumps to the engine rather that firing the spark plugs. Also the plug wires on these would rust on the tops of the ignition coils and then would arch there as well. take a look there as well. Good luck :)
