Pontiac Repair: Hood release latch, release latch, hood latch

Question
The hood release latch on the driver's side floor broke off when I was trying to pop the hood. How do I go about getting into the engine compartment? Is there another release that can be reached from under the car? Can the latch be replaced?

Did just the handle break off the cable or did the cable it's self break? If just the handle broke off you can pull on the end of the cable with a pair of pliers and it may open. What Model car is  this? some of the cars you can reach under the car and unlatch the hood with a small pick by pulling on the lever that the cable pulls on But some of the cars you can't get to the hood latch and it's a job for a collision shop to do.
