Pontiac Repair: Electrical Problem with Car Stereo, travelpilot e1, sat nav

Question
Hi Todd,

I just want to thank you for successfully answering my previous question. I have a 96 Bonneville with a 3800 series II motor. I dont know if you are willing to help me with this problem but any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I have replaced the OEM stereo from my Bonneville and properly installed and wired an after market one with a CD player built in it. After couple months the face plate LED lights started to fade out and now the whole deck wont turn on at all. Usually over time it will kick in again but with no LED display or usually VERY dim. Fuses are fine both from  deck and cars' main panel. ANy idea?

I tried searching online and other mechanics for solutions but its a no go. Heres the exact problem others are facing but with a different stereo.http://www.fixya.com/support/t266063-blaupunkt_travelpilot_e1_radio_sat_nav

Thanks Again Todd.

Answer
Hey Sylvester:

well you eithet have a radio that has gone bad or maybe you have a bad conncstion in one of the power feeds of the ground to the radio. It actually has 2 power feeds. 1 constant battery power for the memory, one for the ignition on power and one power for the headlamp backlight (dimmer) and I would have to say just one ground. Make sure those 4 wires/connections are good and if they are I would have to condem the radio as being bad. Good luck :)
