Pontiac Repair: 2004 Grand Am flickering headlights, reek havoc, water leaks

Question
Hello Todd,
I have a 2004 Grand Am which has had a long time issue of the headlights/dash lights flickering on and off or just turning off when in auto mode (at night or overcast). the other thing i noticed was that my lights sometimes flicker on and off rapidly and sporadically while parked (car locked, engine off, key in pocket). What makes it worse is this a very intermittent problem have no apparent connection with each other. My lights may flicker in the parking lot and my headlights work fine at night, or no flicker and my lights keep shutting off on me.

Answer
Hi Scott:

well First off I would check the basics. MAke sure you have a good strong battery in the car and the alterantor is charging properly! Next make sure the battery cables are clean and tight. Amke sure all the body gounds are clean and tight and also on the engine block. Next have the car scanned for any codes. Any kind of low voltage or communication codes would lead you in a direction to where the issue may be. This could have a body control module issue. I have seen water leaks from the heater box right onto the body control module and cause all kinds of issues. The connectors get corroded up and it will reek havoc on on the module. Good luck :)
