Pontiac Repair: 98 Pontiac Transport Transmission?, pontiac transport, solenoid

Question
I am not for sure if it is the Transmission or now,  I was driving to work doing 55 and the service engine light came on. When I got to a stop sign, and went to take off, it had no power, to get up and go? You can hear it shift when accelerating, to get up to say 55, And the rpm gauge reads around 3? Could it just be a sensor if there is one? Or something Major. Thanks so much!

Answer
Hi Raina:

well the service engine soon lamp could be from a bad sensor or shift solenoid issue or it could indicate a slipping condition. Without knowing what the code is it's impossable to tell you what's going on. But I can tell you do not continue to drive it if indeed it is slipping it will cause more damage... My guess is that it may have a shift solenoid issue and it is hanging up in a lower gear then it should be in and that is why the RPM's are high.
