Pontiac Repair: 1993 sunbird 2.0 ohc, cam timing, back fire

Question
the timing belt jumped on the engine i reset the timing belt it ran and sounded good but would die unless you gave it gas so i set the timing with a ruler not my eye this time but now it has no spark please help me out.

Answer
Hi John:

Even if the timing was off on this "belt wise" it should still have spark. It would have it at the wrong time and back fire or kick back while cranking it over. Are you sure everthing is hooked back up? the proper timing for that is line the make on the cam gear to the notch in the timeing cover and the notch on the balancer to the pointer on the timing cover by the crank that notch is at about 2:00 I belive. if those are lined up the cam timing is good and it should run.
