Pontiac Repair: rear brakes seem to lock up, pontiac trans sport, rear shoes

Question
Hello
I have a 1998 Pontiac Trans Sport (not the Montana)and when I went to back out of a parking spot the rear brakes seemed to be locked when it was put in drive there seemed to be no problem.  This is the third time it has happened and once it has been running it seems to not have a problem.  I do know there are drum brakes on the rear.  We live in Wisconsin and the weather has been damp and snowy.  Thanks for your time.

Answer
Hi Duncan:

well it's one of a few things. The rear shoes are either water logged from the damp weather or you have wheel cylinders leaking and the brake fluid has contaminated the shoes. The shoe material is grabbing the drums and making the brakes lock up. either way at the minimum the shoes will need to be replaced and the drums turned if there is enough material left on them to turn them.
