Pontiac Repair: oil pump on 1997 pontiac grand am, cam shaft, drive shaft

Question
I have a 1997 Pontiac Grand Am with a 3100 engine. The oil pump drive rod
does not turn when the engine is manually rotated. What turns the oil pump
drive rod?

Answer
Hi John:

The oil pump is driven the the oil pump drive shaft which is attached to cam shaft. when the cam turns the gear on the drive assembly turned and taht turns the rod that runs the pump. What is the issue with this? do you have the drive assembly out of the engine and are turning the engine and not seeing the pump rod turn?
