Pontiac Repair: 95 bonneville, pontiac bonneville, sill plate

Question
hi i have a 95 pontiac bonneville. i just replaced the fuel pump and the car starts and runs for about 3 sec then dies. if i try to pump the gas pedal in sputters and still dies. what do you think would be the problem it has fuel pressure and spark so could you help me out?

Answer
Hi Casey:

well first question is you have fuel pressure nor but how much and how much volume. What happens to the pressure when the engine dies out? The pump you put in may not be the right one. I'd first off take a look at that first. Another issue with these cars is a bad ground connection. It's under the left fron door sill plate. It's a big ground splice pack and the ground for the fuel pump is in that splice pack. when you start the car for that split second it runs see in the power windows work? If not you have a gound issue take a look there. The windows use the same ground as the fuel pump. From what you discribed to me it sounds like it's running out of fuel.
Good luck :)
