Question
I have a 1996 Pontiac grand am se with a 3.1 liter motor. My instrument cluster went dead on me while i was driving! I bought a replacement IC but that didnt resolve the issue and i replaced the PCM and that didnt fix it either! How can i fix this, I have No Tach,no speedometer,no fuel,no temp and the low radiator light stays on, the low trac light stays on constantly also! Please any suggestions???

Answer
Hi Russ:

well it could be a few things. Your either missing power, ground or serial data. the ground and power are easy enough to check it's the serial data that's the issue I bet. That data line is a varrable volatge that is sent from one module to another trhough the car. That is why the gauges/indicator is not working. There is either an open in that circuit or the data line is grounded out something like that. My guess is it's got an open ckt or a bad connection somewhere. If it were shorthed out you would have some other issues with this as well like no start or the auto headlamps wouldn't work abs lamps on sir lamp on etc....
