Pontiac Repair: key wont come out of the ignition, key lock, grand am

i have a 98 grand am 3.1l v6 and some times the ignition key wony come out of the callam and some times it will just wondering if u had any ideas on what the problem is taken apart the callom cheaked to see if anything was lose are broken i noticed there is a little rod at the other side of the igniton lock cylender just wondering if that was stuck would it fix the problem ur idea would help thank u for ur time

well it can be a few things. I assume the key will not turn all the way back to the off position and that's why you can't get the key out? if that's the case it's either the key lock solenoid in the column or the switch that's in the floor shifter assembly that is if this is an automatic transmission. more times than not it's the shifter assembly that is bad on these cars. good luck :)
