Pontiac Repair: pontiac grand am, interior lamps, fog lamps

Question
I am working on a 2004 pontiac grand am and I have a no dash lights and fog lights, everything else works, they come on and stay on and somtimes they dont work at all any ideas?

Answer
Hi Jack;

does this car have a sun roof? If so I would take a look at the fuse box on the right side of the dash. the relay for the fog lamps in in that fuse box. if the sun roof leaks into the car it runs right into that fuse bax and will cause all kinds of wierd things to happen. If it doesn't have a sun roof then I would start looking for a blow fuse for the interior lamps in that fuse is not blow turn on the head lamps and see if that interior lamps fuse is powered up. If it is not powered up then the chance is maybe a headlamp switch is bad?? Make sure all the parking lamps work on the car as well if the parking lamps do not work it could be a clue as to part of your poblem is. The headlamp switch powers up the fuse and also it allows for fog lamp operation while the head lamps or on the lo beam setting. Good luck :)
