Pontiac Repair: 2000 Grand Am lurching/hesitating in high gear, mass air flow sensor, mass air flow

Question
I have a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am SE1, 3.4L V6.  My car has recently started lurching/hesitating when I am accelerating above 50 mph (around 2500 - 3000 RPM).  It isn't a violent motion, but you can definitely tell that the vehicle does not want to accelerate like normal, and it only happens in this gear.  Would you think this is spark plug/fuel injection issue or transmission?

Answer
Hi Adam:

When it happens does the tacometer jump all over of does it stay steady that is assuming it has a tach? when it does it if you tap on the gas pedal while still accelerating does it stop? If so it couild be a transmission issue with the torque converter cluth. It could also me fuel related either a dirty injector(s) a plugged fuel filter or restricted filter could do it and when in 3'rd gear there is just the right amount of a load on the engine that it acts up. It can also be a bad engine sensor causing this like a mass air flow sensor. Good luck :]
