Pontiac Repair: firebird, shift transmission, govener

i have a 93 firebird the trans will not upshift it will not shift out of 1st gear .....can you please help.

Well it depends on what engine and transmission is in this car. right around 93/94 they went to a electronic shift transmission but you may have the older style mechanical shift transmission. so if it's the older style a few things could be wrong. Either the govener may be stuck in the trasnmission or the gear may have broken off of it or the shift cable on the throttle body may have broken. you could have a stuck valve in the valve body. if it's the lectric shift transmission it could be a lot of different things from just a bad engine control sensor" but you would have a service engine lamp on" to a bad shift solenoid and on and on. It's hard to say and trasnmissions are not my cup of tea either. Good luck :)
