Pontiac Repair: Anti-freeze smell, coolant leaks, upper intake manifold

Hi, I have a 1997 grand prix gt 3.8 liter (no supercharged) and I it starts to get very HOT when i am parked at a red light. Then when i drive off it cools down...I have replaced the top hose, thermastat, and water pump is about 6 months old...Also when i take the radiator cap off to add more fluid it has gunk build up...Please help me out anyway you can cause i really cannot afford another car...Thanx Rudy Ramirez

That gunk on the cap is an additive in the cooling system it's a brown color. and if the system is low of coolant that build up worse and worse. that engine is noted for a few places for coolant leaks. the elbow between the belt tensioner and the lower intake manifold. The upper intake manifold pleniums leak coolant out the raer under the throttle body.
