Pontiac Repair: engine swap, obd ii, jasper engines

Question
todd, we have a 95 grand am se with a blown 2.3L. We aren't having any luck finding a replacement. My question is will another motor, such as a 3.1 v6 bolt into this car? If not is there another option?

Answer
Hi Randy:

That is an odd breed. No a V6 will not fit for a lor of reasons. The computer and wiring is different. The bolt pattern on the transmission will not match up to a V6 engine and if it did the transmission couldn't handle the torque form the V6 either. So you sort of out of luck. In 95 the engine was different than 94 and the 96 is an OBD II engine so you have to find one from a 95 only. I don't know what part of the country your from but the dealership I work at we get stuff from this place. http://www.wilbertsgmparts.com/
They sell Good used parts.

If not let your fingers do the walking on the net. You couls also try a reman engine place like Jasper engines or the "big box" parts stores sell reman engines as well. But the cost of a reman is higher than a used one!

Good luck :)
