Pontiac Repair: 98 Pontiac Bonneville pressure sensor, pontiac bonneville, vaccume

Question
The pressure senor in my car looks melted along with the unit that it sits in.  My 18 year old son (who really doesn't know anything about cars) says that my car is loud and sluggish because of this bad sensor.  Do you think that's true?  Is it worth it to replace the sensor and the unit it sits on?  I replaced the MAP sensor and that cured the jerking and hesitation problems I was having but the car is still got that loud bubbly type sound.

Answer
Hi Pam:

well yes that plastic piece that the sensor sits in seals off the vaccume from the engine. If that is distorted or is leaking vacuum it will throw off the fuel delivery to the engine. With out seeing it I can't say for sure what the issue is but if it looks melted or distorted replace it. The noise you are talking about could be due to this as well. Good luck :}
