Pontiac Repair: Pontiac grand am electrical problem, battery cables, pontiac grand am

Question
What is wrong with a 97 grand am, 4 cylinder,se model, when everything on the dash (speedometer, engine lights etc.) begin to go on and off randomly. Also radio looses its programmed stations,defrost but will come on and off randomly.

This causes the car not to cut on at all unless i have it sitting for a few days.The fuses have been checked in the door panel and the battery has power. I believe it is a electrical harness shortage. What could be the problem?

well it can be a few things. Either a bad ignition switch, A bad connection at the battery between the cabels and the battery it's self. A bad ground connection between the battery cables and the car. Or it could be what is called a mulit function chime module. That module control power to a lot of the accessories on the car. when it acts up you will need to check to see if all the fuses in the fues box are powered up in not then you have to trace the loss of power back it the root of the problem. It's not an easy fix I'm sorry to say. Good luck :}
