Pontiac Repair: Turn Signal Lever Wont Stay Down, turn signal switch, pontiac grand prix

Question
Have a 1995 Pontiac Grand Prix SE 3.1 Liter.
When I make a left turn the blinker lever will not stay down I have to manually hold it down till the turn is complete and then release it.
My Question is , What is the problem and how do I go about fixing it?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hi Kurt:

well it's 1 of 2 things either the tuirn signal switch is bad or the lever piece that attaches the turn signal switch to the lever has come loose. if it's just the piece came loose it's a simple fix no parts needed. The problem is that car is equipped with an air bag and I DO NOT RECOMEND you taking the column apart to fix it due to the fact there is an air bag in the steering whell horn pad. This is a job for a professinal and you also need a few special tools to disassemblr the steering column as well. Good luck :}
