Pontiac Repair: gagues, temperature gauge, ohm meter

1996 trans sport ran hot now the temperature gauge stays all the way up pass the 260 i replaced the gauge it went up to 260 mark when i trun the key on

either the wire for the gauge is shorted to power or shorted to ground or it's a open cky between the sensor and the gauge. I can't remeber what the gauge does if any of those things happnes to the wire. use an ohm meter and check the wire from the gauge inside to the gauge and see what's going on. but the root cause is more than liley wireing. If the wire check out okat not shorted or open then the gauge is bad in the cluster.
