Pontiac Repair: HEADS UP DISPLAY, grand prix gtp, interior lamps

Question
I have a 99 Grand Prix GTP and the Heads Up Display rarely works. Could you tell me what might be wrong and if it is easily fixed by a mechanically inclined person? It may come on for a few seconds and then just fade out and not come back on for a few days and then it is the same when it does. Thanks for any help.

well it one of a ouple of things. Does the display fade ina and out at night when the head lamps are on or during the day it cuts in and out? if it does it at night when it fades out do the dash lights cut out or the radio dispaly? if so then the dimmer switch is bad for the interior lamps. If it does cut out during the day My guess would be the HUD dipaly "unit" is bad. if it cuts out and you wiggle the hud switch and it comes back on  it could be the swich for the HUD but I doubt it...My gut feeling is it's the unit it's self is bad.
