Pontiac Repair: 93 Bonneville SSE 3.8 intermittent start issues, crank sensor, engine computer

Question
Hi, My 16 year old daughter has a 93 Bonneville SSE with the 3.8 non turbo motor.
over the past 3 weeks there has been 4 times where the car would not start. While trying to diagnose it, it would start without me having done anything to repair it. Today I was able to pull a plug and verify that there is no spark, or fuel being injected. I pressed the valve on the fuel rail and it sprayed to the firewall with just a tap from my finger so i can tell that it is getting fuel to the injectors. I was about to jack it up and look for the crank sensor when we tried it one more time, and it started 123.
Any advice? Also i should mention that this car is new to us and just had the transmission rebuilt.
Thanks in advance. - Jim

Answer
Hi Jim.

Your on the right path. it's going to be an issue with the crank sensor, ignition module or a bad connecetion. The bad connection may be a gound wire. The crank sesnor sensd the engine speed input to the ignition module then the module runs the ignition coils and then sends a signal into the engine computer to run the injectors. So if the crank sensor is bad it will not run the module if the module is bad it will not run the coils or allow the injectors to run. it's a crap shoot I'd say 80-20 80% sensor 15% module 5 % bad wire connetion. Good luck :)
