Pontiac Repair: Shifter stuck in park, twin cam engine, blown fuse

Question
1998 Pontiac Grand AM GT with 2.4 twin cam engine.  I have already removed the console looking for the clip to be removed that overrides the BTSI.  The only thing I see  appears to be diificult to take off..  Am I trying to remove the right clip or is there something else I should do?

Answer
Hi Fredrick:

it's beena while since I had one of those aprat. But more times than  not the issue was the shifter it's self would bo bad or the pin that goes down the middle of the shifter shaft would bend or bind uo and not allow the shifter to move. when you take oof the shifter handle the button on the shifter presses down on the middle of the shifter and gets the whole thing moving. I think the BTSI is it's own seperate linkage on the bottom of the sfifter??? when you have the key in the run position and depress the brake pedal you should hear the BTSI move if not the n maybe it has a blown fuse or the brake lamp switch is bad. I can't remember for the life of me how that looks... I think the BTSI solenoid is part of the shifter it's self but I could be wrong... The extra cable on the shifter is for the key soe you can't tunr the key off while the car is in gear.. Hope that helps you out some...
