Pontiac Repair: 96 grand am missing on cyl 1 and 3, fuel compression, ohm meter

Question
I have a 96 grand am, 2.4 engine that is missing on cyl 1 and 3. Injectors are spraying fuel. Compression checked good. Plugs are sparking. I have replaced the ignition module, spark plugs and boots and both coils. Ignition coil housing looks good. I'm at a loss, don't know what to do next. The only code I get is Random Cyl Misfire.

Answer
Hi Ken:

The 2 cylinders that are misfiring have nothe in common they are on different ignition coils. I would think that maybe the coil housing is bad I have seen the housing's go bad and the could crossfire inside the housing. You can use an ohm meter to see if any of the cylinders are shorted together. remove the coils from the housing and use an oh meter to check for continity between any of the cylinders in the housing. ther shouldn't be any. That is not the be all end all though the insulation can break down between the runners in that housing and the spark jumps between the cylinders. Good luck :)
