Pontiac Repair: 94 Pontiac Bonneville coolant fan wont turn on, crankshaft sensor, pontiac bonneville

Question
Hi there! Recently, at a stop light, my car just shut down as i put it in neutral. I suppose the battery must have been low but i put it in park and it started right back up without any problems. I brought it to an auto parts store to get it checked and their batt tester says that it couldnt test my battery because something is still supposedly draining the battery, or there is something not ground correctly. Anywaz, i also noticed that the fan on my coolant isn't spinning anymore, and i suppose this is the cause of all my troubles. I was wondering what your thoughts are about this. Any help is apprecatiated. Thanks!

Answer
Hi Sean:

Well these 2 problems could be related and maybe not. The engine computer controls the coolant fan to turn on. It could be a bad fan, relay, computer or relay. You need a scan tool to see what the engine temp is running at and to see if the computer is commanding the fan on when the engine gets hot. As for the stalling it could be a computer issue as well. You could have a fule pump that is going bad but usually when it stalls they will not re start.. I would look at a spark issue. When it dies you have to see what your missing either spark or fuel. If it's loosing spark I would lean towards a crankshaft sensor or an ignition module... That engein was also known for ground wire issues. The wires are on a bolt under the ignition module.
Good luck :}
