how do you fix a thermostat on a 1997 pontiac grand prix?

What engine is in this car? 3100 or 3800 engine. The 3800 engine is easy follor the upper radiator hose to the engine and where it attaches to the engine remove the 2 bolts and the cover and hose comes off and the thermostat is under that cover. If it's a 3100 engine that is harder the throttle body and the heater pipe that goes across the front valve cover has to be removed and the thermostat is uner the throttle body. This one is a pian to change!
