Pontiac Repair: key wont turn, pontiac grand am, lock cylinder

2004 Pontiac grand am se, wife went to the store in it came home, put the car in park went in the house came back out put the key in the ignition and the key wouldnt turn. Made sure car was in park and key still wont turn. What can I do to get the key to turn? Why wont the key turn?

well either a tumbler is jammed inside the ignition lock cylinder ot the retainer that holds the tumblers in came out and jammed the lock cylinder up. If it will not turn it's either a job for the dealer or a lock smith. If it will not turn there is a proceedure to remove the cylinder that's not a job for the doi it your selfer. The part is about $150.00 from the dealer + the labor.
