Pontiac Repair: possible torque converter issues, torque converter clutch, pontiac grand prix

Question
2001 pontiac grand prix v6, about 91,000 miles.  car jumps randomly.  i notice when accelerating, when slowing....was told it is the torque converter, but could be 3 different things wrong with it.  could not completely diagnose due to it being random.  what could these 3 things be, and are they going to bankrupt me?  thanks a bunch.  i always keep up on the maintenance, just got tune up, but always have problems with this piece of crap.

Answer
Hi Kelly:

What do you mean by jumps? Does the engine feel like it's running on less than 6 cylinders lack power? Does the transmission slip ? meaning the engine RPM's jump up erraticly and the car doesn't speed up? I don't know what 3 things sopmeone told you about a torque converter.. Usually on these car they do not go bad. Ther is issues with the torque converter clutch that makes it surge and chug at a steady speed but not "JUMP" let me know a bit more info and Maybe I can help you out. Transmissions are not my specialty though.
