Question
my 99 grand am wont start  i had to put a ignition switch in it and then had to take it to the dealer to get it programmed it still wont start the said it was the coil housing and spark plug replaced both still wont start on  its own but if i  take some gas and pour it in myself and crank it will start rev up and everything but if we turn the jug up and don't feed it gas it wont start  so we took a fuel line loose to see if it was getting any gas  well its getting gas up to the  engine and we just put a new fuel pump in this car so do you have any idea what could be wrong with this   car

Answer
Hi James:

Well the fact that it runs when you give it gas means that the engine computer is not putting gas into the engine via the fuel injectors.  doies it have the proper amount of fule pressure? just because it has gas up at the engine doesn't mean it has enough pressure. when you try to start this is the security lamp on or flashing? If so that is why it will not start the security system inhibits the fuel delivery to the engine. if the lamp is not on or flashing next thing to schek is for injector pulse. you need to get a tool called a noid light. you unplug an injector and plug this lamp in place of the injector crank the car and the light should flash indicating the engine computer is turning the injector on to allow fuel to flow into the engine.... Good luck :)
