Pontiac Repair: 1990 pontiac firebird wont start, pontiac firebird, purple wire

Question
QUESTION: I have a 1990 pontiac firebird it has a 3.1 engine it gets juice when you turn the key to turn on the lights and radio  but it won't start or roll over we already changed the starter and cylinoid the starter won't even kick over have any ideas on what could be wrong with the car

ANSWER: Hi Dorothy:

It sounds to me like possably the theft system has failed. that is the system that is in the car from the factory. the little black pellet in the ignition key is part of the system. try the other key if it still doesn't crank then you will have to dig into it further. when you are craning the car have someone check to see if the purple wire at the starter have battery voltage when you crank the car. If not and I bet you don't you will have to trace the loss of "crank" voltage back into the car and I would venture to say that it's possably thw wires in the steering column have broken off for the ignition lock cylinder. that lock cylinder reads the pellet in the key and tells the theft system that ther is a valid key in the ignition and allow the car to crasnk. Good luck :)

QUESTION: We did that and we changed the key ignition switch and the ignition starter it started up and we were able to run the car for about 4 days and then it did it again any more ideas

Answer
Is it the samew problem no crank or it just will not start? if it will not crank do what I suggested the first post. You may have "crank" voltage there now and maybe the starter it's self has gone bad. If it doesn't have that "crank" voltage it would trace it back into the car maybe you have a starter relay gone bad or the theft module it's self is starting to go bad.
