Pontiac Repair: Car wont start, pontiac bonneville, heat radio

Question
I have a 1994 Pontiac Bonneville. Recently when starting my car, there was a slight drag or delay before it actually started. As the day went on and I would get in and out of my car running errands, the delay became worse until it just eventually wont start at all. Now when I turn the key, absolutely nothing happens, yet the lights, heat, radio, and everything else is on. The battery is fully charged, my alternator is fine so I don't know what the problem is. Could it be my key because it has a computer chip in it? Help please

Answer
Hey Keith:

If the car will ot crank at all I's suspect either the pass key system "chip" or a bad starter motor. you nned to see if the car has a "crank" signal at the starter first off. at the starter there is a purple wire. when the car is cranked that purple wire should have battery voltage on it. use a 12 volt test light and have a helper tray to crank the car over and check that wire. if it has power and it will not crank it's the starter that's bad. if not then try starting the car with the shifter int the netural position. if still no crank I's suspect the pass key system failed. they were VERY prone for wires breaking off inside the column for the ignition lock cylinder. If that is the case that is a job for a trained person. the column has to be disassembled and the air bag is in the steering wheel and that is NOT something you should be playing around with. Good luck :)
