Pontiac Repair: Ticking in Engine, engine oil pressure, lifters

Question
Had new lifters installed in my 04 Sunfire.  Engine was quiet for a day.  Heard the same ticking noise 2 days later however sound disappeared after car was off for 2 hours then restarted.  Dealer tells me this can happen until everything settles...? is this true?

Answer
Hi Cassie:

You shouldn't hear the lifters ticking at all. Especially new ones. If it is still making noise with new ones I would look into another porblem like low engine oil pressure. was it noisey when hot or on a cold start? do you know what engine is in this car? is it a 2.2 Ecotech engine or just a 2.2 liter? If it's an eco tech engine they have timing chain noises and it can be confused for lifters making noise. The proboem beeing if it's not making noise when you take it in it's hard to determine what the issue is. I'd say keep an ear open and if it makes the noise again at least stop by the dealer and let someone listen to it. DO not shut it off leave it running just incase when you start it back up it stops making the noise.Good luck :}
