Pontiac Repair: grand prix, grand prix gtp, safe bet

Question
Hello.  I have a 2002 grand prix gtp-supercharged 3800.  140,000 miles.  Periodically when I drive the car somewhere and shut it off for a minute or two, it won't start.  The fuel pump doesn't seem to be working.  The fuse for the fuel pump is blown.  The car will keep blowing the fuse, but if I let the car sit for about 15 minutes it will start right up and run fine.  Never have problems when the car is running, just when I drive it somewhere and shut it off for a short period of time, then try to restart it.  Also, I've noticed it only happens during warmer weather.  It happened a couple of time last summer.  Never happened all winter, but the following summer it happened again when the weather warmed up.  I had assumed the pump was going bad, but I can't understand why this problem only happens when it's warm outside.  Any advise would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Answer
Hi Theron:

It sounds to me like the ou have a fule pump that is going bad. The resistance in the pump windings has decreased or the pump it's self is starting to bind up causing an increase in amperage making the fuse blow. I would say it's a safe bet given the amount of milage that is on this car. Make sure you get a Factory pum pfor this car being that it's a supercharged engine. some of the aftermarket pumps may not work correctly and then you will have all kinds of performance issues. when you change the pump BE SURE TO replace the fuel filter as well! that will protect your investment of the new pump. good luck :)
