service vehicle soon light is on all the time, what could be the problem? And also has very bad gas mileage why? 1999 pontiac grand am gt v6 3400

A service vehicle lamp on should not have anything to do with poor gas milage. that lamp is for a body or chasis fault. On that car it can be anything from a burt out headlamp bulb to a an issue with door locks. Now if that lamp is on in conjunction with a service engine soon lamp that could indicate an issue with the emission system on the engine. Bad fuel economy can be all kinds of things. If there is no service engine soon lamp on an issue with poor fuel economy can be a lot of things. You need ot have the engine computer scanned for any codes and if any are set then that would be a place to start. a lot of car parts stores like autozone or advance auto will scan for any codes for free give them a try and see what you come up with. good luck :)
