Pontiac Repair: my trans am is confusing, ram air system, v8 engines

Question
background; i have a 2000 trans am v8 automatic. when i bought it it had an aftermarket ram air system on it. my question is, is this an Lt1 or ls1 engine? also where is the thermostat located in the car and are Ls1 and Lt1 thermostats interchangeable? thank you.

Answer
I don't know what engine that has? you need to look at the VIN build label it's located in the glove box or in the rear glove box. It will be listed as LT1 or LS1 or LS5 those are the V8 engines in those cars. My guess is it's an LS1. The thermostat is on the water pump assembly on an LS1. where the radaitor hose goes onto the pump. The other part of the question is no the engine thermostats are not inter changable. If you looking to either remove or put ina cooler thermostat do not do it. #1 you will use more gas and #2 it will in the long run cause more engine wear. the hotter they run the bettre they burn the fuel and less engine wear. If that is where you were headed.
