Pontiac Repair: 1999 Sunfire, car parts store, noid light

Question
I am repairing a 99 sunfire with 2.4l, we have good spark, good compression, fuel pump runs but engine wont start.  Not sure where to start? Could it be a sensor or modual? if so how do I check?

Answer
Hey scott:

What is the compression reading on the engine? You have spark and fuel pressure. How much fuel pressure? does it have spark on all 4 cylinders? How about injector pulse? You need a "noid light" to check to see in the injectors are being turned on and off. You can get one of them at the car parts store or you can use a computer friendly test light one that has an LED in it not a light bulb. If it has spark,fuel pressure,and injector pluse I would look at an engine mechanical issue like low on compression. I have seen these engine jump time on the exhaust cam an not start. Does it sound funny when it's cranking or bfore it wouldn't start did it have excessive engine or timing chain noise? It's a place to start.. good luck :}
