Pontiac Repair: squealing ;ower pulley under fuel pump, squeeling, road grime

Question
what the pulley called? do you think it could be somthing else like something that happens to trans am alot it 1998 5.7 350 v8 ls1

Answer
Hey Kimbell:

The fuel pump is in the gas tank on that car so that's not it. the belts on most of our cars squeel if the belt it old, covered with road grime/dirt or oil soaked. try a new belt first unless it's oil soaked. If it's oil soaked you need to find the oil leak or you willruin a new belt right away. if not then replace the belt and see if the squeeling goes away. Now if the squeeling is more of a grinding noise then  you have a component that's going bad. good luck :}
