Pontiac Repair: Security light, car alarm system, car wont start

Question
Todd,
I have a 2003 Pontiac Grand Am with a 6 cylinder, possible a 3.4 liter engine. My security light comes on and off from time to time. It will come on sometimes after I start it and the next time it won’t be on. There has been times when the car won’t start and I found in my owners manual where I have to leave the key on for 10 minute, and then turn it off and it well restart. Is there something I can check or a meter I can rent to check this problem. Or is there some part that needs replaced. Thanks. Robert

Answer
Hey Robert:

There are a buch of other people that have asked me the same problem. It's either the ingition lock cylinder houseing of the body control module. To be sure you need a GM scan tool to look athe the body control module security system data. most of the time it's the lock housing that is bad. Take a look back at past questions I have answerd I have answered this about 4 or 5 times this past month. Good Luck :}

Here is one of them:

there are a few more with in the past month. They are all the same problem. It's a pretty common issue and a cheap part that fails Not cheap to buy just cheaply made!
