I have a 2001 bonneville it starts up no problem but it wont shift in gear at first it does after it has warmed up. After it goes in gear it shifts fine with no problems I dont want to have to replace the tranny what am I looking at repair wise

Answer
Hi Barbi:

I'm not a transmission technician but I can tell you the transmission is not going to get any better in fact it will get worse. It's going to have to come apart. My guess is that it has a internal leak on on of the apply pistons. once the fluid warms up a bit the seal swells up and thne it will apply first gear. Before someone rips in to it would want them to verify the fault cold while using a pressure gauge just to make sure the pump in the transmission is not the fault. To answer your question it's not a cheap fix but it doesn't necessarily need a new one or even a complete overhaul the longer you wait the worse the damage will and the more expensive it will be to fix yours. good luck :}
