Pontiac Repair: grand am, fuel delivery, fuel lines

Question
i have a 97 grand am v6 sedan it was pretty cold the other night i went to back it up to clean but it wont stay runnin it starts and shuts off right away the fuel pump is working im getting spark the battery was good im charging it now the gas is just below an 8th. it sat for 2 months started up fine drove it home and then i sat for 4 days now it wont start. what might the problem be.

Answer
Hey Chuck:

when it quits running does the security lamp come on on the dash and flash? If so the anti-theft system is cutting off the fuel delivery to the engine thus the stall. If not Then I would check the basics you said you have spark and can hear the fuel pump run but does it have enough pressure? if this car sat for a long time you may have had some moisture in the tank and it froze either in the tank or fuel lines or even the fuel filter. Add some dry gas to the tank and see what happens granted the has to get through some ice if that it the issue so don't expect instant results. Other things how's the battery? If it really weak the car may not stay running either. these are just a few ideas for you to start. Good luck :}
