Pontiac Repair: 2002 sunfire radio, body control module, dome lamp

Question
QUESTION: My 2002 sunfire radio will not shut off after the keys is removed and the door opened.  The radio can be turned on at any time (with no key in the Ignition) Also, I noticed that the wipers are always hot and can be turned on at anytime (no key in Ignition).  The door switch is working fine (turning off dome light)  Ant suggestion would be great

ANSWER: Hi Craig:

If the door is opened and the dome lamp turn on the body control module is seeing the door open input from the dome lamp door ajar switch.to turn on the light. but is doesn't turn off what's called retained accessory power. It is part of the body control module it sounds to me that the control module has an internal fault like the internal relay to keep the fueses hot is stuck on of the module will not turn it off. I would have it double checked at the dealer to make sure. The control module is not anything you do your self it has to me programmed with a gm scan tool. One last though if that door jam switch is working but the contacts in the switch are corroded it may not be a good enough of a signal to trip off the retained power just a though from left field.... Good luck :}

QUESTION: Thanks again for the information.  I replaced the door switch and now the problem is very intermittent.  About 80% of the time the radio and wipers shut off.  Is there a common ground that I should look at or is the door jamb switch and wiring the possible cause?

Answer
Was the wiring at the switch all corroded? If si That's the first place to go. there are 3 grounds for the body control computer one on or around the steering column on the metal part of the dash. one under the bastter tray just above the washer pump. This is a place for a bad ground all the time! and one on the transmission bolt that attached the transmisson to the engine. Good luck :}
