Pontiac Repair: 2001Grand Prix GT ignition problem, screwdriver, good luck

Daughter came home last night shut the car off and could not get the key out of the ignition, the key will turn fwd but will not go back to off,no power to anything, lights, horn, etc.can not move shifter. any idea where to start

Hi Everett:

It's one of a few things either the switch in the bottom of the shifter assembly in the floor console has gone bad or a wire broke off the connector for the switch or it has a bad ignition switch. On that car there is a little plug under the steerin column cover that you can remove and stick a small screwdriver up and release the lock for the switchj to get the key out untill you have time to look for the problem. My guess it that it has a broken  wire at the shifter switch. that is the most likely cause. good luck :}
