Pontiac Repair: 1998 grand prix, tail signs, grand prix gt

Question
i have a 98 grand prix gt 3.8 liter automatic, there is a full alarm and imobilizer package on it, a couple of day ago it started taking longer to turn over,(you would turn the key and then wait about ten seconds for the car to start) yesterday it would not turn over at all. i spoke with the alarm people and they do not believe it is anything to do with them because of the infared lights going out when i turn the key, i have checked all fuses and relays, again i turn the key and the lights and radio come on but the engine does not make a sound, not so much as a click, any suggestions

Answer
Hey Jason:
Firsat off I would remove that alarm all together. They cause more trouble then they are worth especially if it is a remote start system. If that car has an ignition key that's stamped pk3 on the shank of they key it has a factory system on it. That could be an issue as well but that is a pretty clean system on that car we do not have that many issues with it. I have seen Igntion switches go bad on thses cars and cause all kinds of issues like all the accessories not working to the PRNDL lights flickering or on dim. those are tel tail signs of a bad switch. But start by removing that system first If it's not the cause now it will be sooner rather than later then if it doesn't start look further. My policy on those things are you have $20,000 car and a $100.00 part maked in china and a kid they pay $5.00 an hour to hook up with tape and scotch locks what is the weak link??? see what happens then.
