Pontiac Repair: power steering pump, broken shaft, belt pulley

Question
1997 grand prix 3.8 this is my grand daughters and i work on it to save her money. the belt pulley just fell out of the pump. is changing the pump a job i could perform or shouhd it be done by a pro. thanks for any advice.

Answer
Hi Eddie:
Yup that happens the shaft snapped off int the pump. Changing the pumop is pretty easy on that car 2 hoses and 2 bolts. The hardest thing is getting the broken shaft out of the pulley. If you take it to the parts store they will have a tool you can rent to pull it off the shaft. usually the replacment pumps have a bolt and nut contraption to press the pulley onto the pump so to answer your question YES it's a job you can do. good luck :}
