Pontiac Repair: 2001 grand Prix 3800, abs braking system, upper radiator hose

Question
When driving at any speed really, the tachometer will go to zero and the traction control will turn off. This happens occasionally when cruise control is off or on. When it occurs at faster speeds there is single "buck" and then the car runs fine. Of course the tachometer and traction control stay off until you turn off then restart the engine. That is, it never resets itself while the engine is running. I thought that the traction control and tachometer where on totally different systems that is, tachometer and the ignition system and the traction control works with the ABS braking system.

Answer
Hey Bob:

There could be a lot of different reasons for this to happen. for some reason the engine rpm is being lost between the engine computer and somewhere between the cluster and abs module. The abe needs ingine speed input for traction control It could be a issue in any one of those three modules aor a rubbed through wire. That car was pretty noted for wire rub issues right on the A/C accumulator which is on the left side of the engine compartment right under the upper radiator hose take a look and see if the engine wire harness is rubbing on that or one of the A/C lines. once that signal is corrupted during an ignition cycle it will not correct it's self untill the car is turned off and back on again. good luck }
